This can be divided into three basic categories. We can treat the present moment as
- Enemy ("I hate it/it's disgusting/makes me mad")
- Obstacle (Always focused on getting to a future goal)
- Means to an end (presently here, but always trying to get somewhere else, pinning our hopes on future; similar to number 2)
- Friend (Enjoying the present moment, or at least accepting it; giving it full attention)
Modalities of Optimal Action
Optimal actions can be put into three basic modalities.
- Acceptance
- Enjoyment
- Enthusiasm
To makes sure our actions are "optimal" and yield successful, we should make sure we are always in at least one of these three modalities.
We are in the modality of "enjoyment" when we treat the present moment as our friend. We are not in the modality of "enjoyment" if we treat the present moment as an enemy or an obstacle or a means to an end.
If we cannot be in the modality of "enjoyment", we must make sure that we are at least in the modality of "acceptance". If what we hate what we are doing or find it disgusting, then we must at least learn to at least accept it, or else stop doing it.
The modality of "enthusiasm" is the most interesting. It is the modality that leads to CREATIVE MANIFESTATION!
The "enthusiasm" modality implies we are enjoying the present moment, but we are also have a future goal in mind. This leads to a split, or a "structural tension" in the mind. It's a delicate dance. If we are too focused on the future goal, and not enjoying the present moment, then it is no longer enthusiasm. It becomes stress.
On the other hand, if we are so focused into the present moment that we loose sight of the future goal, then we are not manifesting anything out of volition. It's a fine balance that requires constant vigilance and awareness.
Being in the modality of "enthusiasm" is the key to creative manifestation.
